Problem Solved: Ram Ecodiesel Emissions Fault Code

The Problem
A customer took her 2014 Dodge Ram EcoDiesel 3.0L V6 truck to a local Ram dealership due to an emissions fault code that displayed the following message on the instrument panel: “Engine will not restart. Service DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). See Dealer.” The dealer diagnosed the issue as a faulty SCR Catalyst. The Ram owner wanted a second opinion due to the considerable expense of SCR Catalyst replacement. She took the truck to 710 Diagnostics and Repair in Boscobel, WI, where TOPDON was able to work with the shop to test the diagnosis and resolve the issue.

The Solution
Aftermarket service information websites were surprisingly silent on this problem, so a Mopar Tech Authority short term wiTECH 2.0 subscription was ordered to better track down service bulletins. Sure enough, a star bulletin was located which outlined test procedures and drive cycles for this trouble code. Using the TOPDON tools and the factory service bulletin material, we determined the issue was a faulty NOx sensor, saving the customer considerable expense.
